Installation of model of towboat SPRAGUE

photo taken by museum member Travis Vasconcelos

A model of the steam towboat SPRAGUE recently arrived at the Howard. It was donated to the museum by Mr. Keenon Coleman.

The model was built from plans drawn by Capt. Alan J. Bates. The SPRAGUE (built at Dubuque, Iowa in 1901) was the largest towboat ever built. She was retired in 1948 and served as a museum and showboat at Vicksburg Mississippi until destroyed by fire on April 15, 1974.
