Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation Awards Gift to the
Howard Steamboat Museum
Generosity was the bridge that brought members of the
community from both sides of the river to the Kentucky
Derby Festival's “They're Off!” Luncheon on April 11 to
kick off the 2008 Kentucky Derby Festival.
This year
the Silver Horseshoe Award,— presented at the
luncheon to an individual
or company that has demonstrated outstanding service
or contributions to the community was presented
to the Delta Queen Steamboat, owned by the Majestic
America Line.
The monetary gift of $1,000.00, which is part of the award,
was presented by the festival's charitable foundation to
the Howard Steamboat Museum in honor of the Delta Queen.
The Delta Queen is a royal reminder of the Great Steamboat
Era. The Museum was recognized at the luncheon for
its 50th anniversary of preserving the heritage of that
important era in American history. The funds will be
applied to the Capital Campaign for needed improvements to
the Museum.
