The Howard Steamboat Museum Presents the 14th Annual Art, Crafts, Garden & Antique Fair

A Victorian Chautauqua

“Women at the Wheel”

Hours: Saturday and Sunday, 10 am - 5 pm
Admission to Grounds: $3.00 for adults
Children under 12 with an adult are free

Overview

The Victorian Chautauqua is a fair with entertainment and booths offering arts, crafts, an herb and perennial sale, antiques, food and books and book signings. It is located in and around the house and grounds of the Howard Mansion.. Last year over 3,500 folks enjoyed the two-day event.

Over 80 juried artists and craftsmen from four states will offer their talent and artwork for sale. Antiques and collectibles will also be on sale: some of the region's best antique dealers will offer their treasures. Museum Administrator Yvonne Knight says "We're very excited about the addition of antiques to the festival. It seems like a perfect match for the Chautauqua, especially when you consider all of the exquisite antiques on display in the Museum."

The Chautauqua also features a popular herb and perennial sale as well as an assortment of food, fun and entertainment. Delightful children's and youth activities will be offered including Aunt Nannie’s Crafts, Victorian Games, a working model of a steam engine, and knot-tying with the Boy Scouts. Entertainment will include Women at the Wheel, historical re-enactments of the first-lady captains; Victorian dancing and garden walks; river folk music, steamboat songs and brass bands; history, lore, storytelling, along with abundant opportunities for audience participation.

Roving performances include an organ grinder, costumed re-enactment characters and Ohio River Minstrels. Tours of the interior of the mansion will be hosted by volunteer docents. Jeff High School students will be debuting vignettes from the upcoming performance, River City Chronicles Part I: The Last 106 years of Jeff History, which will take place on the RiverStage June 17 & 18.

The Howard Steamboat Museum is on 1101 East Market Street in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Located just five minutes from downtown Louisville, Kentucky, the museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the famous three generation Howard shipbuilding family, their legacy and the lore of American steamboats.
