Hands-On Pilot Wheel and Bell Stand Exhibit Completed

Visitors to the Howard Steamboat Museum are now able to manipulate the controls that would typically be found in the pilot house of an old-fashioned steamboat:
  • The 7½ foot pilot wheel that would be used to directly control the rudder of a steamboat can be spun in either direction. (A rudder is not included in the exhibit.)
  • The left and right handles on the bell stand will sound their bells when pulled to the right.
  • The center handle will sound a gong when pulled up.
