Don't Miss the Boat! The next program in the RIVER RAMBLINGS series

"Rise and Shine for the Streckfus Line"

A Journey on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers with An Excursion Steamboating Dynasty

Saturday June 28, 2008 at 3PM

The Streckfus excursion steamer WASHINGTON in 1937
The Streckfus steamer SAINT PAUL, later renamed SENATOR

Miss Judy Patsch, retired high school teacher and longtime steamboat historian, will be the presenter. Judy, who is also a a volunteer and life member of the Howard Steamboat Museum, is well known for bringing chocolate chip cookies to museum events as well as delivering them to the crews of the steamboats as they pass through Lock and Dam #15 at her home town of Rock Island, Illinois on the Upper Mississippi River.

The Streckfus Steamboat Line has long been a special interest of Judy's. She has assembled a fabulous collection of photographs, postcards, posters and other memorabilia pertaining to the many steamboats operated by this well known steamboat line which was founded at Rock Island in 1886 and ceased operation around 1980, their last sidewheel excursion steamers being the ADMIRAL and PRESIDENT.

Light refreshments. A $5.00 donation is suggested. The event is open to the public.

The modern Streckfus steamer ADMIRAL. At the wharf in the background are the BECKY THATCHER (formerly the Str. MISSISSIPPI whose hull was built at the Howard shipyard) and the GOLDENROD SHOWBOAT.
