A native of Wisconsin, on the banks of the Upper Mississippi River, Capt. Carl Henry has worked on the river for over 30 years, beginning his career at age 19. He also holds degrees in Art and English, working for a time in the advertising and public relations field. He has served as a deckhand, mate and pilot on much of the Inland River System. including the Str. JULIA BELLE SWAIN and RIVER EXPLORER. He was captain on the maiden voyage of Southern Towing Company's first state-of-the-art Z-drive towboat, the M/V FRANK T. STEGBAUER and currently serves as master of the M/V/ SCOTT STEGBAUER. Carl and his boats have been featured in several publications, including Live Steam - Paddlewheel Steamboats on the Mississippi System, Highway 61 Revisited, Midwest Living, Big River, WorkBoat and National Geographic Traveler. A talented writer and photographer, Carl will give us an inside look at the river from a variety of viewpoints, from steam passenger boats to the modern working river and its vessels.
